First off, the Chamber would like to wish all of its members and partners within the Franco-British Business Community its best wishes for a happy and successful 2012.

With the London Olympic Games and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in the UK and a Presidential election in France, 2012 looks set to be an interesting and eventful year on both sides of the Channel.

VISIT BRITAIN PREDICTS RECORD YEAR FOR UK TOURISM IN 2012

As Britain turns its attention to hosting a number of major events next year, national tourism agency VisitBritain has recently released its 2012 visitor forecast1, revealing that the UK should attract 30.7 million visitors in 2012, spending £17.6 billion in the process.

BRITISH AIRWAYS UNVEILS NEW ROUTES

BRITISH AIRWAYS RELEASES NEW JANUARY PRICE OFFERINGS

From the 9th January 2012, British Airways, in conjunction with OpenSkies, have opened up a fourth daily flight between Paris Orly and London Heathrow Terminal 5. OpenSkies, now an official affiliate of British Airways, are also making two daily flights available between Paris Orly and New York-Newark.

British Airways have also been elected as the most efficient domestic airline service by the readers of the ‘Sunday Times Magazine’. BRENTANO’S BACK IN PARIS

BRENTANO’S REOPENS IN PARIS

Good news for the American Ex-pats meandering the streets of Paris! Brentano’s, Paris’ famous American bookshop, has just re-opened, after closing because of bankruptcy in June 2009.

When its rent tripled, the lease and brand were taken over by the Iranian-born Farokh Sharifi, who plans to broaden the store’s advertising outlets. About 35 to 40 percent of the store will be devoted to English-language books. Read the rest of this entry »

Tech City, London Silicone Valley, Silicone Roundabout are the names of a technology hub in the East of London that has witnessed an impressive growth: in 2008 there were about 15 high-tech companies, by 2011 about 360 small technology companies have started, bucking the trend of the economic crisis and hoping to build companies able to compete with the world’s best.

OLD ENGLAND CLOSES ITS PARIS STORE

Old England, the reknowned retail outlet for all things British in France, will be closing its flagship store in Paris. The Old England store is going to be replaced by Bucherer, the wordwide luxury watch distributer.

Bucherer will be opening the largest watch store in Paris at the beginning of 2013.
